Buy It for Tuesday Morning Instead.

One of the biggest mistakes we see buyers make has nothing to do with choosing the wrong floor plan.

It has to do with imagining the wrong life.

When people begin looking for a home in Ocean Hills Country Club, they naturally picture Thanksgiving dinner.

Christmas morning.

The week the grandkids come to visit.

Birthday parties.

Friends gathered around the dining table.

And because of that, they start making decisions around moments that may only happen a handful of days each year.

They worry whether the guest bedroom is too close to the primary suite.

Whether they should give up an office to make room for another guest bedroom.

Whether the kitchen is big enough for entertaining.

Whether there’s enough seating for everyone.

They’re all reasonable questions.

But somewhere along the way, I almost always find myself wanting to ask a different one.

What about Tuesday morning?

The Life You’ll Actually Live

Thanksgiving is one day.

Christmas is another.

Even if family comes for a week or two during the year, those special occasions make up only a small fraction of your life.

The other 350-plus days?

That’s your real life.

It’s making coffee in the morning.

Reading a book on the patio.

Taking a walk after dinner.

Working from your home office.

Heading over to pickleball.

Meeting friends for bocce.

Watching the sunset.

Cooking dinner for two. Or not cooking at all. (Popcorn for dinner anyone?)

Those are the moments your home should be designed around.

Because those are the moments you’ll experience over and over again.

Your Life Is About to Change (In Ways You Can’t Yet Imagine)

One of the things that’s hardest to explain to buyers is how much their life often changes once they move here.

When TK and I first moved into Ocean Hills Country Club, we entertained at home quite a bit.

Friends came over.

Family visited.

It felt very much like the neighborhood we’d left.

But gradually, something changed.

Without us even realizing it.

Instead of inviting people over for the evening…

We started meeting friends at the bocce courts.

Or at pickleball.

Or for a walk.

Or at one of the many community events.

Sometimes we’d simply hop in the golf cart and end up chatting with neighbors for half an hour.

The community slowly became part of our home.

And we found ourselves spending less time entertaining inside our own four walls and more time living life just beyond them.

The House Gets Smaller. The Life Gets Bigger.

This is one of the beautiful surprises of living in a community like Ocean Hills Country Club.

Many people move into a smaller home. But their world actually expands.

You have more opportunities to connect. More reasons to leave the house.

More spontaneous invitations. More friendships.

Your entertaining doesn’t disappear. It simply evolves.

Instead of feeling like you have to host everything yourself, the community becomes part of the experience.

A Better Question to Ask

When you’re looking at homes, of course it’s important to think about holidays.

Make sure the grandkids have a place to sleep. Picture Thanksgiving dinner. Think about where everyone will gather.

Those moments matter.

But don’t let them become the only thing guiding your decision.

Instead, ask yourself:

Will I love living here on an ordinary Tuesday morning?

Will I enjoy drinking my coffee here?

Does this floor plan fit the life I want every day?

Will I enjoy keeping this place clean?

Will this space make everyday life easier—or harder?

Can I see myself aging comfortably in this home?

Those questions often lead people to a very different home than they imagined when they first started looking.

Looking Ahead

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned since moving to Ocean Hills Country Club is this:

The goal isn’t to fit your old life into a new house. It’s to create a home that supports the life you’re moving toward.

That’s a very different way of looking at it.

And in our experience, it’s almost always the better guide.

So yes…

Buy a home that works for Thanksgiving.

But don’t forget about Tuesday morning.

Because that’s the day you’ll live the most.

And in the end…

It’s those ordinary Tuesdays that become your life.
