We give a lot of community tours here in Ocean Hills Country Club. It’s one of the best ways to get all of your questions answered and really get a feel for what it would look like to live here.
Because before people move into a 55+ community, they’re often trying to picture what daily life will actually feel like here.
Not just the homes.
Not just the amenities.
But everyday life.
So we thought it would be fun to answer a few of the questions we hear most often.
“Where do people shop?”
This is probably one of the top questions we get from out-of-area buyers.
And the short answer is:
Pretty much everywhere you’d want to shop is nearby.
One of the things residents love about Ocean Hills Country Club is that it feels peaceful and tucked away — while still being incredibly convenient to everyday life.
We’re close to grocery stores, Trader Joe’s, Costco, Sprouts, restaurants, coffee shops, Target, medical offices, beaches, and shopping centers throughout Oceanside, Carlsbad, and North County San Diego.
We have an Albertson’s one-mile away which is handy for those quick trips to the grocery store. We often do a lot of our shopping in Bressi Ranch area. They have a wide variety of grocery options (Stater Bros., Trader Joe’s, Sprouts) as well as lots of eateries, CVS, etc.
We also love the Jimbo’s at The Forum because their organic produce is incredible. Frazier Farms is also a neighborhood favorite. And we have 3 different Trader Joe’s about the same distance away – depending on which direction you exit the neighborhood.
And, with so many restaurants nearby, we could probably eat at a different place every week for years!
“Is there an on-site restaurant?”
This answer surprises people, too:
No — there is not a full-time on-site restaurant inside Ocean Hills Country Club.
And interestingly enough… most residents are perfectly happy about that.
At first, people assume a restaurant would automatically be a major advantage. But after living here, many people realize they actually enjoy the flexibility of being close to so many great restaurants – instead of supporting a large dining operation through HOA costs.
Social life here also doesn’t revolve around a restaurant the way some people expect.
People gather in lots of other ways: happy hours, club events, concerts, golf groups, bocce nights, dinner outings, neighborhood get-togethers, fitness classes, card groups, and spontaneous invitations that naturally happen when people live in a connected community. We don’t meet up just to eat. We meet up to do things together.
The lifestyle here extends far beyond the clubhouse.
That said, we do have a full catering kitchen inside the clubhouse adjacent to the large Abravanel Hall. This allows for all sorts of amazing options for special events. Most large events bring in catering companies for food and this allows for a lot more variety and options.
In addition, the Recreation Department hosts monthly events like Taco Tuesday, Sweet Treats and Burgers & Brews – which are usually held out at the lanai.
And the community also invites pop-up food vendors into the community several times each week. They set up across from the clubhouse and make a great option for those nights when you don’t want to cook or leave the neighborhood.
“Do people actually know their neighbors?”
Much more than many people expect.
Of course, every neighborhood is a little different, and everyone participates at their own comfort level. But overall, there’s a much stronger sense of community here than many people are used to experiencing in traditional neighborhoods.
People wave. They stop and talk. They invite each other to things. They check in on each other. And because so many residents are walking, golfing, gardening, attending activities, or out in the community spaces, people naturally cross paths often.
That repeated interaction makes a huge difference.
You don’t have to force community quite as much here because the environment naturally creates opportunities for connection.
“Do you need a golf cart?”
Need one? No.
Will you eventually want one? Possibly. 😄
Golf carts are definitely part of the lifestyle here, but not in a gimmicky way. They’re simply a really fun and convenient way for residents to get around the community.
People use them for: community events, concerts, golf, pickleball, visiting neighbors, clubhouse activities, and evening rides around the neighborhood.
And honestly, they add a surprising amount of fun to everyday life.
“Is it quiet?”
Yes — but maybe not in the way people imagine.
Ocean Hills Country Club has a very peaceful feel to it. You notice it almost immediately when you come through the gates.
But peaceful does not mean lifeless.
There’s still activity here. People are out walking. Playing pickleball. Heading to events. Meeting friends. Working in their gardens. Visiting neighbors.
It’s active — just without the chaos.
And that balance is probably one of the reasons so many people end up loving life here once they experience it for themselves.
Because the best way to describe Ocean Hills Country Club is probably this:
It feels like a neighborhood where people are still truly living their lives — just in a more connected, intentional, and enjoyable way.
