Should You Wait for the Perfect Home in Ocean Hills Country Club?
We spend a lot of time helping buyers figure out what they’re looking for in Ocean Hills Country Club.
In fact, it’s one of our favorite parts of the process.
We encourage buyers to see different homes, walk through as many floor plans as possible, compare locations and really pay attention to what feels right. Golf course or greenbelt? Ocean view or quiet interior street? Bigger home or less to maintain? Room for the grandkids or more outdoor space? Morning sun or afternoon?
The more homes you see, the more you learn about what matters to you. And, it helps you be prepared to jump on it when the right home pops up.
But there’s a point where knowing what you want can turn into waiting for something perfect.
And that’s where we’d like to share a little food for thought.
The perfect house might take a while
Ocean Hills has 1,632 homes, but at any given time, only a small number of homes are for sale. Narrow your search to a particular floor plan, golf course location or ocean view, and you may be waiting quite a while for exactly the right combination to become available.
What if that perfect view or floor plan doesn’t become available for another two years?
It’s something worth thinking about.
What would you be missing out on between now and then? How many pickleball games? Rounds of golf? Activities and adventures? Gorgeous weather and outdoor living?
Two years from now, you don’t just arrive at a house—you arrive at a stretch of time you could have already been enjoying.
What if the first house doesn’t have to be the last house?
This is something we think many buyers don’t realize.
A lot of the people we work with have lived in their current homes for 30 or 40 years. So naturally, when they start looking at Ocean Hills, they’re thinking about this purchase the same way:
This is probably the last house we’ll ever buy.
Maybe it will be.
But maybe it won’t.
Moving within Ocean Hills isn’t nearly as unusual as you might think.
My own parents moved here in 1998 and have owned three different homes in the community. They started in a St. Tropez, eventually wanted more space and moved into a Mystra, and years later decided to simplify and downsized into a Palma.
Over the years, we’ve known plenty of other residents who’ve done the same thing.
One neighbor spent years trying to land the golf course home he really wanted. He made offers on several before eventually getting the right one on his third try.
We know others who were waiting for a fully remodeled home, but ended up buying something that needed a full remodel. The six months of remodeling was a much shorter timeline than waiting for the perfect home.
Another couple moved here knowing their first home wasn’t necessarily their forever home. They’re still keeping an eye out for the golf course location they’d ultimately love to have.
But in the meantime?
They’ve been living here.
They’ve made friends. They’ve gotten involved. They’re closer to their grandchildren. They’re playing, exploring and doing all the things they moved here to do. Most importantly, they’ve already spent a couple of years building a life here.
Imagine if they’d put all of that on hold while waiting for the perfect view.
Sometimes moving here actually changes what you want
There’s another reason we encourage buyers to leave themselves a little room for flexibility.
You don’t completely know how you’ll live in Ocean Hills until you live here.
Maybe you thought having an extra bedroom would be essential, but discover your guests don’t visit as often as you expected.
Maybe you were convinced you needed a golf course view, but realize after all of your time on the golf course, you’d rather have a private garden patio retreat.
Maybe you thought you’d spend most of your time at home and discover you’re barely there because you’re playing pickleball, golfing, joining friends for dinner and saying yes to things you never expected.
Your priorities can change because your life changes.
A different way to think about “perfect”
We’re certainly not suggesting that you buy a home you don’t love or compromise on the things that truly matter to you.
Quite the opposite.
Our job is to help you understand the community well enough to recognize a great fit when it comes along.
But there’s a difference between knowing your priorities and creating a wish list so specific that nothing can ever quite measure up.
The golf course house may come later.
The ocean view might eventually appear.
You might move once and never want to leave—or you might find yourself moving three doors down a few years from now because the house you’ve always admired suddenly becomes available.
That’s part of the beauty of getting here.
Because once you’re inside the community, you’re no longer watching Ocean Hills from the outside.
You’re meeting neighbors. You’re hearing what’s happening. You’re learning which streets you love. You’re discovering how you actually spend your days.
And somewhere along the way, you may realize that the thing you were searching for wasn’t really the perfect house after all.
It was the life you hoped you’d get to live once you found it.
And that life doesn’t always have to wait for a perfect house. It just has to start.
