There are dozens of active adult communities across Southern California.
Many have beautiful clubhouses, golf courses, pools, fitness centers, and activity calendars packed with things to do.
So what makes Ocean Hills Country Club different?
That’s a great question!
And the answer isn’t one spectacular amenity or statistic. It’s something that’s much harder to capture in a brochure. It’s also something we really try to help people experience for themselves when they come for a tour with us.
It’s the way life feels here.
After more than 25 years of family history in Ocean Hills Country Club—and now living here ourselves—we’ve come to realize that it’s often the little things that make the biggest difference. Things that you can’t fully understand without experiencing them first-hand.
One thing we hear quite often from prospective buyers who have done a deep dive into visiting dozens of 55+ communities is that nothing compares to Ocean Hills. They describe this neighborhood as a ‘stand out’ against all of the others.
Here are a few of the reasons we think Ocean Hills Country Club stands apart.
1. It feels like a neighborhood first.
One of the biggest surprises people tell us after moving here is how quickly it begins to feel like home. We experienced that ourselves, too. It’s friendly. It’s warm. It’s welcoming.
Neighbors wave as they drive by in golf carts. People stop to chat while walking their dogs. Someone notices you’re new and invites you to pickleball, bocce, or coffee.
You don’t have to “break into” the community. The community seems to welcome you into it.
That sense of belonging is difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it.
2. You’re surrounded by people who are embracing this stage of life.
It’s pretty cool to be surrounded by people who are fully embracing this stage of life. Exploring new interests. Improving their well-being. Open to new connections.
Some are learning watercolor for the first time.
Others are hiking, biking, golfing, kayaking, traveling, volunteering, or discovering entirely new hobbies.
There’s an energy here that’s contagious. It reminds us that this chapter of life isn’t about slowing down.
It’s about finally having the freedom to spend your time doing more of what brings you joy.
3. It’s active—but never overwhelming.
One of the biggest misconceptions about 55+ communities is that you have to become “one of those people.” You don’t.
Sure, sometimes it can feel like you’re living on a cruise ship around here. So many activities to choose from. So many themed events. But, that’s not all this community has to offer.
Some residents have calendars filled with activities every day. Others enjoy the peace and quiet of their own patio. Many fall somewhere in between.
There isn’t one right way to live here. That’s one of the things we appreciate most. We also love that there is a wide variety of activities that appeal to different ages and stages of life. Whether you’re in your 50s or your 80s – you can easily find something that draws you in.
4. The location is hard to beat.
Ocean Hills feels tucked away from the busyness of everyday life. Yet within minutes you can be:
- At the beach
- Shopping in Carlsbad or Encinitas
- Meeting family for lunch
- Visiting grandchildren
- Hiking on a trail
- Heading to the airport
- Exploring North County
It’s a peaceful community without feeling isolated.
5. The amenities become part of everyday life.
When people tour Ocean Hills, they’re impressed by the clubhouse, golf course, pool, fitness center, and courts.
What they don’t realize is how naturally these amenities become part of daily living. A quick morning walk. An afternoon pickleball game. Nine holes of golf before dinner. A concert on the lanai.
Life doesn’t revolve around the amenities. They simply make everyday life a little richer.
6. Every home has its own personality.
Unlike many newer developments, Ocean Hills Country Club doesn’t feel like rows of identical homes.
As you drive through the community you start to notice how every street is curved. Every front and backyard has a different shape. There are various elevations and views.
There are 17 floor plans spread throughout eight villages. Some homes overlook the golf course. Others back to open space. Some have expansive views. Others offer incredibly private park-like settings.
Each neighborhood has its own personality, and buyers are often surprised by how different one area feels from another.
7. The people make the biggest difference.
If you asked residents what they love most, many probably wouldn’t start with the golf course.
They’d tell you about the friends they’ve made. The neighbors who checked in after surgery. The spontaneous dinners. The travel groups. The walking buddies. The laughter.
Amenities are easy to build. Community takes years.
That’s something Ocean Hills Country Club has been building for decades.
Our Perspective
There are wonderful places throughout Southern California, and the “best” community ultimately depends on what you’re looking for.
But after choosing Ocean Hills Country Club ourselves, we’ve come to appreciate something that’s difficult to measure on a comparison chart.
We love the way this community feels.
Not because it’s perfect. But because there’s a genuine sense of connection here.
For us, that’s what transforms a neighborhood into a community.
And that’s what keeps so many people here saying…
“We wish we’d moved sooner.”
