When we began Project Downsize six years ago, we thought we were simply reducing our square footage. What we didn’t realize was how much space we’d gain — not in closets or cabinets, but in our lives.
Back then, we traded 2,400 square feet for less than 800. It felt like a bold experiment — could two people (plus a cat) really live comfortably in a one-bedroom apartment? Spoiler alert: yes, and then some.
1. Space became a mindset, not a measurement
We quickly discovered that less space meant fewer distractions and less maintenance. We learned that clarity and calm come from having just enough — not too little, not too much.
2. We started saying “yes” to experiences instead of things
Without the yard work, household projects, or long commutes, our weekends opened up. We started exploring again — new restaurants, bike trails, and local getaways. The less you have to manage, the more you have to live for.
3. Our values became visible
When you live with less, every item you keep carries meaning. The artwork on the walls, the mugs in the cabinet, even the books on the shelf — each reflects what truly matters. Downsizing helps you curate your environment to align with your lifestyle and priorities.
4. We found freedom in flexibility
One of the best benefits of downsizing is how mobile it makes you. When the opportunity came to move to Ocean Hills Country Club, we were ready. No years of decluttering or house prep — just a smooth transition to a lifestyle that fit us perfectly.
5. We realized downsizing isn’t really about less — it’s about more
More time. More laughter. More freedom to spend mornings on the patio instead of managing property upkeep. More energy for connection, creativity, and community.
Today, our life feels bigger than it did when we had triple the space — because it’s built around what truly matters.
Thinking About Your Own Project Downsize?
If you’re considering a move to Ocean Hills Country Club — or simply craving a lighter, freer lifestyle — start small. Pick one drawer, one closet, or one room and ask yourself:
What would it feel like to keep only what supports the life I want now?
You might be surprised by what you gain when you let go.
