About the Group:
A welcoming community for anyone in OHCC who is curious about healthier, more plant-based eating
Everyone is welcome. (Yes, that means YOU!)
Plant-Based Food & Friends is a friendly, low-pressure group here in Ocean Hills Country Club made up of neighbors who share one simple thing in common: an interest in exploring a more whole-foods, plant-based lifestyle.
There are many reasons people lean into plant-forward eating — better health, environmental impact, animal welfare, or simply discovering delicious new foods. Your “why” doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re curious.
Some of us are hard core and have been on this path for years. Others are just beginning to explore and want to learn how more about it. Wherever you are, you’ll fit right in.
And here’s the most important part:
You do not need to be plant-based, vegan, or vegetarian to join us. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to try something new. We all learn from each other!
What We Do
We meet once a month at the Clubhouse for relaxed, community-style gatherings. Depending on the month, we might:
- Share recipes or themed potluck dishes
- Watch documentaries related to food, health, or the environment
- Host guest speakers
- Explore local plant-friendly restaurants
- Swap tips, products, and ideas that make healthy eating easier and more enjoyable
We have hosted: A Chili Cook-off, Friendsgiving, Educational film series and field trips to Vegan Pop-Up events in Vista & Oceanside.
It’s fun, friendly, and delicious — and a great way to connect with neighbors who care about wellness, community, and good food.

What Is Whole Food, Plant-Based?
“Whole food, plant-based” is simply a way of eating that focuses on foods in their most natural form — real, minimally processed ingredients that come from plants. It’s not a strict label or an all-or-nothing lifestyle.
It’s more about adding in nutritious foods that support your health and make you feel good.
For the sake of our group:
What it typically includes:
- Vegetables
- Fruits
- Whole grains (like oats, brown rice, quinoa)
- Beans, legumes & lentils
- Nuts & seeds
- Minimally processed plant foods
What it avoids:
- Animal products: No meat, dairy, cheese.
- Highly processed foods
- Added sugars
- Refined oils
- Excess salt
It’s fun to learn how to make new dishes and try new foods using these healthy parameters. It’s also nice if you have food restrictions because we encourage people to bring their recipes so you know exactly what is in any dish we share.
Come join the fun!
How to Get Involved
The easiest way to join us is to sign up for our interest list. We send out a simple email at the beginning of each month with our upcoming events, meetups, and anything fun we have planned.
No pressure, no obligations — just an easy way to stay in the loop and join in whenever something sparks your interest.
It’s a great group of wonderful people! You’ll love it!
