We recently helped move TK’s mom from Utah into Ocean Hills Country Club—and it’s been one of the best decisions our family has made.

For years, she lived far from us. We visited when we could, but we always wished she was closer so we could spend more time together. As time went on, she began to feel the same way. She wanted to be near family, especially as her needs changed and she wanted family close by for support in the yeqrs ahead. Now, she lives less than a mile from us, right here in Ocean Hills Country Club.

She can walk to the clubhouse, stroll the walking path, and join in on activities that interest her. We know she’s safe inside this gated community, and more than that, we know she has the opportunity to thrive here – making new friends and attending events.

What’s even more special? Karen’s parents already live in the neighborhood. Having both sets of parents close by feels like the beginning of our own little family commune—and I mean that in the very best way. We get to share more everyday moments and quality time with the people who raised us. Our daughters can pop in to see their grandparents, and they can build stronger bonds because of that proximity. It’s making our lives richer, more connected, and honestly, more joyful.

Of course, helping aging parents transition into a new home—especially one far from where they’ve been—can be emotional. There are logistics to navigate and feelings to process. But for us, this move wasn’t just about proximity. It was about creating a lifestyle that makes it easier to support one another, to show up for life’s big and small moments, and to age well—together.

Ocean Hills Country Club is designed for exactly this: active adults who want community, connection, and convenience. But what we’re discovering is that it also offers families a beautiful opportunity to stay close, literally and emotionally.

If you’ve ever thought about encouraging a parent to move closer, I can’t say enough about how impactful it’s been for us. It’s making caregiving more manageable and meaningful. It’s already added so much richness to our everyday lives. And it’s reminded us that the most important part of any neighborhood… is who you share it with.

Always happy to share our experience – so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re looking into options for your own parents or even just for yourself.
